About a month ago my husband spotted a bird's nest perched on our backdoor light. At first he started to take the nest down because he'd just recently found and dismantled several others underneath the deck. However when he saw that there were three tiny blue eggs in the nest he quickly and deftly put it right back.
A few days later we had two little chicks!
Oh how delightful it was to watch the mommy and daddy robins as they flitted back and forth from the nearby trees to the nest, each time returning with worms and bugs. We would spy on them through the kitchen window and whisper words of encouragement. This morning I kept trying to see them but had no luck. I assumed they were deeper in the nest or maybe sleeping while mom and dad were out hunting.
In the afternoon while we were outside I got Mr H to use my phone and reach up above the nest and what do you know---No birds! They have flown the coop and once again we are empty nesters. It's midsummer and we can finally put out our deck furniture and enjoy the outside without being yelled at by angry birds.
